Parents in my town have formed a group, #BringBackRecessMedway, to advocate for more recess for our school children. K – 4th grades get a mere 15 minutes of recess per day. 5th grade and older Continue reading
The results are in. Massachusetts students are Racing to the Middle
Common Core is doing exactly what it set out to do. By having education standards common from state to state, high performing states will lose their edge and low performing states will gain ground. Massachusetts, the highest performing state before Common Core, is fulfilling this Common Core objective. Massachusetts students are racing to the middle. Continue reading
Massachusetts parents can end Common Core
There is a 2016 Massachusetts ballot initiative to end Common Core in Massachusetts. The initiative will return us to our previous standards that made Massachusetts #1 in the U.S. & initiate an open, transparent process to write revised standards.

The hero-ification of Christopher Columbus is a national embarrassment.
Remembering our history in a glorified, self-fulfilling white European context does a disservice to all of us…especially our children. It is also insulting to every non-white European descendant.
For Thanksgiving we eat turkey and tell our children about Pilgrims and Indians sharing Continue reading
What if we have been blinded by our own patriotism?
Are the rights that Americans enjoy at home portable when we travel to other countries? When we voluntarily enter a foreign nation, are we obligated to play by their rules? And when we voluntarily enter a foreign nation as dangerous as Syria, Iraq, or Libya are we Continue reading

Welcome to America! …The Land of Unintended Consequences. We have the greatest of intentions with an alarming degree of shortsightedness.
Below are 9 ugly examples of unintended consequences. Unintended consequences are outcomes that are not the ones intended by these well-meaning actions. Leave your party affiliation at the door.
